Bjorn Agertved's Danish retreat

A while ago I featured a post on the Danish artist Bjorn Agertved's stunning Copenhagen apartment. So you can imagine how excited I was when I spotted his family summer cottage over at Decordots today!  Featured in Femina, Bjorn's weekend retreat is full of treasured mid century designer items such as the Butterfly Chair (or BKF chair) and Borge Mogensen chairs as well as some wonderful vintage industrial lighting.

This is turning into a bit of a Danish interior design week, and why not? The Danes really know what they're doing when it comes to fabulous home styling don't you think?

PS Thank you for all your encouragement with painting my kitchen wall with blackboard paint - just what I needed! I'll post some pics on it once I'm done!

A renovated Farmer's cottage

Well, well, well! Architects Calvin Tsao and Zack McKown certainly knew what they were doing when they renovated this former farmer's cottage in upstate New York. If I could own a weekend retreat, this would be it. I've heard of people moving houses....

I think the thing I love the most about this retreat is all of the interesting objects and artifacts displayed. So many beautiful wooden pieces too. Fabulous home, what do you reckon?

A little piece of Scandinavia in Toronto

Because the summer's not over yet - here is a beautiful Scandinavian styled guest house in Toronto, Canada owned by John and Juli Baker of Mjolk, an online shop selling items by Scandinavian and Japanese designers (it's starting to become a bit of dangerous week!).

For more info on where to find some of the fab items in the home check out the Remodelista's article....perfect!

Enjoy the sun!

A Swedish summer home on Gotland

Morning! Me in a very wet London calling! Looking on the sunny side (te he) take a look at this beautiful home on Gotland, Sweden (check out other wonderful spaces on Gotland here). You may well have seen this oh so cool white space, photographed by Amelia, the blogger behind A Beautiful Living before with it's wood panelled walls, white floors, industrial and mid century scandinavian touches but it's always worth another look, especially if you're in need of summer cottage inspiration!

Despite the driving rain I've had such a great weekend in the Big Smoke. For anyone visiting London  you must visit the very cool new bar/eatery Evans & Peel Detective Agency in Earls Court.  Make sure you reserve a table well in advance though as it gets very booked up and it's soooo worth a visit!

Have a lovely start to the week and see you Wednesday!

A beautiful Swedish home in Österlen

Tomorrow is a big day in Sweden; Midsummer's eve. It's always a wonderful day (even though, by tradition the temperature drops by 10 degrees with horizontal rain!!). I've been learning how to make the midsummer wild flower crown for my two little girls hair and we'll all be leaping around a maypole like frogs (don't ask) out in the countryside. So to celebrate the occasion, here's a lovely home from a beautiful part of this region in Skåne - Österlen.

Hus o Hem, photography: Karin Foberg

I spy shabby chic dressers, beautiful mosaic tiled floors, crates used for shelving and Tolix chairs. What a lovely relaxed home from home don't you think? If you could see the surrounding nature of Österlen you'd be even more in love. You can see more pics and read more info about this home here.

And tomorrow I'll also be announcing the winner of the Japanese Washi tape! So don't forget to stop by and see if you've won (if you haven't entered, hurry! click here).

A beautiful white cottage by the sea

I hope you've enjoyed my Asian inspired week, I would've loved to have done so much more, there's only one thing for it, I NEED to go back on a personal visit rather than a business trip and take my own images!! Watch this space!! And now it's time for the weekend and here in Sweden everyone's gearing up for the annual trip to either their own or a friend/family's summer cottage. So here's a little inspiration - a beautiful 18th century summer cottage by the sea in Cornwall, England. It had me at the all white....!

Photography: Paul Massey via Dust Jacket Attic
According to Dust Jacket Attic the floorboards are made of reclaimed scaffolding wood which has been white washed and waxed. Beautiful?!

Tonight it's England vs Sweden in Euro 2012. Always tense in our household and I'm actually starting to get very nervous  (I'm english and my man's swedish!). So I'd like to end by saying good luck Sweden, and COME ON England!!!!! May the best men win!

PS If you haven't already - don'¨t forget to enter my blog give-away for your chance to win some genuine Japanese Washi Tape I picked up in Tokyo!

Have a lovely weekend! x

Harbour Cottage, Maine

I have a dream home. It's a cottage over looking a remote, wild coast with the beach on our door step. The winters are wild and romantic with blustery walks on the dunes followed by cosy knits in front of a fire and the summers are spent with morning dips, crabbing and paddling in rock pools with my girls. Balmy evenings with bonfires on the beach and ever changing views. OK I'm getting carried away. But you get the picture! If you don't, this beautiful former General Store in Maine owned by Fiona And Tony Hooper, now renovated into a holiday home may help set the scene. According to Meghan at Wishful Thinking the tide comes up so high it laps at the front door. And behind that door is everything a cottage should be. And it's up for rent...YAAAAAAY!

Renovated by Architect: Sheila Narusawa Photography / source: Design Skool via Wishful Thinking

If I had a cottage I would definitely go for this beautiful white, pale grey and and light wood scheme. I love that it's kept very basic so that the spectacular views over the bay do all the talking.

I also really love the geometric mustard yellow and white blanket. I wonder where it's from? It reminds me a little of the blankets and textiles from Ferm Living.

Can someone tell me, what's Maine like? I think it could be worth a visit....x

PS Thank you so much to Justine Hand for allowing me to use her lovely photos. There is a great write up on her blog about this home and some of the work Sheila Narusawa put into the renovation.

Have a lovely weekend!

Have a lovely kristi himmelsfärd holiday to everyone in Scandinavia and a lovely weekend to all! x

A light and airy Australian beach house

Hej hoo! Here in Sweden it's only 8 weeks until midsummer (crazy, it's still only 10 degrees outside- BRR!). In the summer in Sweden many people head off to their summer cottages by the water to make the most of the near 24 hours daylight and warm(er) weather! So to hot things up a little and get in the mood I thought I would take some inspiration from a renovated fishermen's cottage in Australia which has become a fabulous beach home with a Scandinavian touch; clean lines, open spaces and lots of white and natural materials. Beautiful!

Pretty and simple idea alert; I love this white top against  a blackboard wall, here it's in a children's room, but I could also imagine doing this somewhere else in the home too.

If you feel like seeing a few more pics of this lovely home pop over to Plenete Deco. I love the garden too.  Dreeeeaming of the summer now what about you?! Happy Monday!
